Nana Addo Danqua Akufo Addo, the president of Ghana, has hinted on his love for Elmina festival, dubbed Edina Bakatue, as the best festival in Ghana.

During his first ever visit to experience and grace Edina Bakatue, the president arrived at the Benya Lagoon to participate in the ceremonial opening of this year’s Bakatue Festival, He was joined by the chiefs and Elmina people, along with dignitaries present, including the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng; the Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, among others.

This year’s festival was celebrated on the theme: “Patronising made in Ghana goods and services to enhance economic development: The role of the people of Anomansa.”

By performing this procedure, the fishing prohibition in Benya Lagoon is symbolically lifted spiritually. Exactly one month after the traditional authorities enforce the ban, it is celebrated on the first Tuesday in July.

For the purpose of thanking the gods and requesting a successful fishing year, people celebrate the Bakatue Festival and also lift the ban on noise-making.

The Paramount Chief of Edina Traditional Council, Nana Kojo Conduah VI brought these issues to the president, Nana Addo Danqua Akufo Addo

The President also pledged to de-silt the Benya Lagoon, provide a bus for Edinaman SHS, and presented drinks and GH¢50,000 to the Edina Traditional Council.
